Neurodivergent Travellers Consider?
Lapland is incredible, but the environment is very different from an ordinary city or beach holiday.
Things to consider include:
Pace: You don't need to book an activity every day. Quieter or recovery days can be built into the trip.
Food: If familiar or safe foods, discuss this before booking rather than assuming you'll find suitable shops.
Cold: Extreme winter temperatures, heavy clothing and moving between warm indoor spaces and very cold outdoor environments can affect sensory comfort.
Thermal clothing: Thermal suit and boots are included, but think about how wearing bulky and heavy layers feels for you.
Light and snow: Large areas of bright, white snow can create significant glare. This could cause visual or sensory discomfort.
Darkness: Winter daylight hours shorter in northern Finland and Night hours are longer.
Activities: Snowmobiles, huskies and organised excursions can involve noise, unfamiliar equipment, waiting, groups and changes in sensory environment.
Downtime: You can choose fewer activities and allow more time between experiences.
Inform me of what affects you when discussing your options.
